Some great nation of cannabis ceteceans
Some great nation of cannabis cetaceans

In following the trajectory of the war on some people who use some drugs, over the last 20 years, I recently noticed a similar situation to that of the (WOSPWUSD) in the plight of those who wish to recognise a cetacean nation, or some rights and freedoms that humans enjoy.
The strategy for aquiring a kind of nationhood for Dolphins and Whales reflects, to my mind, the on-going battle between medical Marijuana activists and recognition, officially, of the benefits and culture surrounding Marijuana, effectively reversing the current laws and punishments for members of the cannabis community so that they become endowed with a kind of spirit-hood thing, and enjoy protected freedoms to live a proud and fearless life like other minorities or previously oppressed groups such as women, people of colour, homosexuals and a growing list of animals, vegetables and plants, cannabis people strive for at least equal rights and the pursuit of happiness as a Gorilla would!
Jane Goddard seems to me to have kickstarted the quest for individual sovereignty through her work with the United Nations (dometicated primates) and her work with Apes (primates). And, as mentioned above, Dr John Lilly with a host of other scientists, thinkers and imaginative activists have outlined what a sovereign nation for cetaceans might look like, why we should have such a thing, and what we can do, collectively to work towards building and maintaining it.
The cannabis nation also has such outlines and plans, research projects and evidence to put forward their case, but, (rising organ music please) with cannabis there are hundreds of thousands of such data sets pointing towards changes in the forever biased and bloody bigoted laws and punishments handed out to any member of the cannabis nation participating in their non-violent lifestyle e.g; ingesting cannabis in one form or another.
In both cases, however, I come across a similar set of problems and in my humble opinion-- misunderstandings--on behalf of those who fight for such equal rights and government recognition, in the same way other diverse groups are now protected, legalised and left up to their own devices, to the extent that humans are supposed to have irreducible rights based upon finding oneself in a lucky incarnation: that of a sentient human being.
There are many different angles to the cannabis nation argument, and billions of Angels, based upon the wide strata of human culture, not least coming from the artistic and innovative music community world-wide. Whereas, the cetacean nation arguments usually come from a somewhat small and specialised area of scholarly research, although cargo cults often get on board the Dolphin and Whale boat to nationhood, adding a sometimes humorous, sometimes frustrating glossing to the concept of a cetacean nation. In my opinion, it is the definition and evidence amassed by Dr John Lilly in particular that best describes the case for cetacean rights and nationhood on par with that of human beings. Read him!
As any reader of Dr John Lilly may know, he also wrote extensively on altered states of consciousness, cognitive liberty and the therapeutic, neuro-psychological uses of some drugs (in particular Ketamine and LSD). As a scientist, however, John did not follow the slightly more popular legalise cannabis, and other drugs battle in the streets, he rebelled through his research and feedback, both amplifying his brilliance and genius. John made tools and maps to help us navigate psychedelic space that maybe more important today than before based on the similarity between navigating psychedelic space (as defined by Lilly) and navigating cyberspace (as defined by Norbert Weiner and Tim Berners Lee). Cyber = to steer, remember?
Techniques for navigating non-ordinary states of consciousness are very helpful in navigating through the Internet and our hyper-connected futures or science fiction futures as I like to call our multi-dimensional futures.
I imagine a situation where inner space--the world behind our eyelids and the private space of one’s thoughts--spills out and over into outer-space or the human perceived space-time world, via Internet, social networks, web sites, games, movies, music and cyber-culture: the digital universe.
Although this may seem a slight digression from the similarities in the process of recognition of both a cetacean nation and a cannabis people’s nation, the result of some carfeul investigation and a little research into non-ordinary states, reflects the descent or accent, depending how you view the idea of the world and reality made and manipulated primarily by language, to high weirdness!
However, I must add that all this talk of nation-hoods and sovereignty runs contrary to my intuition about how to really solve the big problems of greed driven civilisation, the swelling global village, and a peaceful cooperative future.
I recognised that Buckminster Fuller nailed it when he implied that until the sovereign nations have been de-sovereignized (effectively decentralised) we cannot have open world around trade and balanced communication. I agree whole heatedly, although for the purposes of the arguments above I must drop such a notion, for some great nation of cannabis cetaceans.

How can we trust The Government men and women, who have hindered, blocked, slowed down and trickled down Information. Lying, stealing and cheating their way into positions of government, Using and abusing Government status to further private interests, telecommunications Banking, Arms and pharma – all wrapped up in a giant syringe, the ultra junky.gov Power, control and distribution mixed in a toxic cocktail, a red hot Heroin hit in the eyeball.
Fuckin' DELL! Lord! and the Forensic Police and curse you and your total information awareness program. Lordy, Lordy Lordy, would you look at that! What of Lord Carter and the Brunswick Group – EMI, B.P, British Airways and B.T Group? No Shit, he worked for NTL on broadband police work, and even went to Harvard And what of OFCOM and what of NTL?
Why would the people of Great Britain, Or anywhere take any of the Digital Britain report seriously, just glancing at Lord Carter’s file? Have we just witnessed an attempted U.S style telecommunications coo by the info-Tzar?
The RIAA, the British Government and DELL are all making threats to the consumer. And the sick sound of suited monkeys talking about Digital Knowledge and Culture. The Tzarist Occupation government is passing judgement on video games and Cannabis.
The Government that sent the entire British culture and economy into illegal war Bowing to the commands from Washington, and wasting Trillions of public Pounds wants Us to take them seriously when proposing we trust them to distribute our digital information What Government Tzar?
Of what secret order, what rank, can ordain the mighty information? EVERYTHING can be thought of as information, and information permeates everything everyware. All this talk of pirates and nobody mentions the great Pirates, as Buckminster Fuller calls them, The sea-faring, robber-barrons of industry and technology who stole our collective cultural Inheritance and sold it to the highest bidder – Sony, General Motors, Universal-Vivendi, Monsanto, J.P Morgan, NTL, and on and on, just read the paper, see the stocks and bonds – the great LOOT!

As Minister for Communications, Technology and Broadcasting in the U.K Government Lord Carter Might have read Finnegans Wake by James Joyce, easily the greatest broadband network poem. Or maybe not, maybe he reads white papers on current DARPA research, police forensics etc. I speculate that he does, and this worries me, as a consumer and artists and as a poet i must sing.

But, with the strictest supervision, and with a community who can FEEDBACK

The Gorillaz are a bright example of 21st century novel languaging.
Post modem Aliens from another planet, and now as a harmonious accent to their reality bending oeuvre' they're paying direct tribute to a 16th century Classic Chinese Sacred Text, utilizing "from all quarters" the plurality of different mediums, dance, music, gymnastics, magic, from Oriental traditions and then, retranslating this big soup with modern audio/visual technology, and what you might call a more westernized extravaganza of light, Holographic projectors, and most importantly for this writing, the arts and crafts of Hip Hop culture.
Graffiti, DJ'ing, M.C'ing, Which, as i wish to show here and have hinted at before in a piece of writing for Maybelogic Quarterly called "The Knu Science of Hip Hop," have a distinctly Oriental mystique about them, Calligraphy, Swordsmanship, and many Martial Arts have been recently pulled into the fold of Hip Hop Culture, Wu Tang Clan, Ninjatunes, and the Gorillaz all have an affiliation with Orientalism, to give three examples that spring to mind, but of course many Orientals may vary in their opinion of how closely these western artists imitate their cultural values attached to these terms.
But what's important to me, is noticing that along with the outwardly noticeable Oriental themes through much Hip hop, there is a deep rooted affinity with orientalism and Hip Hop culture, rekindled and rediscovered by street poets and dharma bums, a new communication has been established by Graffiti writers and DJ's and Poets, and billions of people are tuning into Hip Hop culture world wide. Or language is mutating faster through Hip hop culture, especially fueled by modern Web 2 technology (Youtube, Photobucket, google) Digital photography and other new mediums for languaging.
The Gorillaz and Chen, and the humans in the mist, seem to have unified many of these themes, but in a way i find particularly attractive with a particular sensitivity to the "Oriental" way of seeing and perceiving which i suspect can be fantastically and completely different to our own Alphabetical and Westernized way of seeing, interacting and processing our symbol systems. Animation may have been what Ernest Fenollosa was searching for as a medium to translate the interacting picture poems within Oriental languages he was studying.
Instead his work found Ezra Pound, who was helping to birth Animation in poetry through Imagism, vorticism, Modernism and Surrealism and all of the great real icons of art and culture: The ancient wisdom of Chinese poetry, orientalism and Eastern culture are wrapped up in "Monkey", if you wish to unravel the rope and begin to analyze the fur on the Monkeys tale more closely you can see the fantastic "other" worlds emerge of Eastern ideogram cultures, Chinese poetry and their more positive cultural images related to enlightenment, peace and at-oneness with Nature, distilled from their oriental equivalent of synergetic historical periods, their Renaissance in arts and literature, in Respect/rejection of myth and in the relationship between mankind and nature.
"Journey to the West has an Epic encyclopedic cultural background in Chinese folk religion, as strange and new to most westerners as any alternative historical fictions from our own culture such as Tolkien's Middle Earth or the even the Matrix such are the seemingly Alien qualities of much Oriental culture. Its twice as strange but four times as real as our Western history, due mostly to the fact that, to be blunt, a chinese written character is more real than an alphabetical one. Hands down. Each and every way, ideogram conveys multi-directional images in multi-directional readings Chinese mythology and value systems; the pantheon of Taoist and Buddhist deities is still reflective of Chinese folk religious beliefs today. -Journey to the West
My personal impressions of the "Gorillaz" kind of worldview if you like is that they are living in a post alphabetical world, an apocalyptic afterfuture where a virtual self (avatar) seems ever so slightly or at least equally real. This concept relates very nicely for me to poetics based on the Zen-Buddhist conceptions of nonbeing as being, emptiness as form, and transcendence of the duality between self and world.
The Chuang Tzu, an ancient philosophical treatise, states that: "Tao cannot be conveyed by either words or silence. In that state which is neither speech nor silence its trancendental nature may be apprehended." perhaps painting best typifies that state which is neither speech nor silence, but manages to convey a unique mood which can transport us into a special awareness. Yet, if we, as westerners, are to experience the tao in Chinese painting or in the I-Ching, we must recognize and transcend certain limitations of mind. - R. L. Wing, The Illustrated I-Ching
The classical spiritual Avatar or guardian ANGEL parallels the "Gorillaz" avatars in many ways. And the flurry of Avatars born to web2 everyday. Avatars become a vehicle to help bridge self and supra-self, the A-typical western dualistic paradox which has long been kept alive in small enclaves and underground cells in the Western lands.
Hip Hop culture recently manifested thousands of magical Avatars, powered up with symbol, sound and movements united together, charged. Generally many Eastern religions include the phenomena of the "Avatar" as a kind of virtual super self, a comic book hero; often graphically mutated with an animal or element within nature.
In literature this metamorphosing takes place in metaphor, poetry and allegory. The great Oriental mystics, and many Western esotericists and Shamans and bards have been using metaphor to combat the demons of reality since the beginnings of "Time/space", within "ZEN" Buddhist and some Taoist creation stories and poetic parables we often see metamorphosis between mankind and nature.
Oriental paintings for example, eclipse the human being with Mountain, wave, river, cloud, monkey. Gorillaz have brought this myth science arkestra back to a Western stage in 2007. Capturing this kind of holographic motion on the page with words might be a helpful metaphor to use when describing what Joyce has left us in Finnegans Wake: a flurry of spicetyme Angels.
See Finnegans Wake and The Cantos of Ezra Pound for working examples of exactly this kind of omnipoteia, multiple sensory, multi-cultural, multi linguistic and multi-symbolic communications. More simply called Epic poetry or referred to as "The Tale of the Tribe". Monkey: Journey to the West qualifies as an Oriental based "Tale of the Tribe" or cultural compendium, working on many different levels, philosophical, spiritual, magical, historical.
And so i am knitting Monkey into a kind of Maybelogical glossed Oriental "Tale of the Tribe" and hijacking their performance into my own interpretations of Orientalism and Modernism.
"The Monkey King's journey from animal being to human being to spiritual being was obviously a Buddhist metaphor for the way in which you have to endure calamities to reach enlightenment. - Chen Shi-Zheng, Director with Gorillaz of Monkey: Jouney to the west.
And so the real and unreal thinking goes around and around, but thankfully the Gorillaz, dubbed as the worlds first Virtual band due to the cartoon/comic book like appearance and the hologramic "projections" of the band during their perfoirmances. The band however is a mutating band of gypsies, a well pool of talent from around the world, many special guests both real and virtual make magical appearances in both the real and the virtual world. Jamies Hewlett and "CHU" recently glossed a full 217 Meter train which rolls from London to Manchester daily. Journey through the West (Midlands) When the train is in motion the images are in motion creating animation and moving pictures, live film. Outdoors. A taste of public transport could aspire to, if it could break free of the influencial government dogm that Graffiti IS a crime!
Gorillaz as a medium for Chinese Poetry."Another set piece, by no means as poetic as Mutt and Jute, introduces the Tristan theme: the Prankquean (21-23) is Brangwen or Brangane who is responsible for mixing up the love-potion (21.27 lovespots) and the death potion in the opera: they both look like a pint of Guinness; hence the thematic riddle 'Mark the Wans, why do i am alook alike a poss of porterpease? The philosophical questions raised about what real reality really is and what a virtual reality really is! is a portal of discovery which thanks to the Gorrilaz and their mist (tech support, musicians, producers, painters, designers, financial backing etc.) has led back to well spring of valuable information, preserved with out the usual mass identity fragmentation and forced re-shaping to fit in with the Knu world order reinforced by False Iconic Corporate Capitalists.
The boundless Wisdom of the Orient goes straight to the root, the seed, back to nature as metaphor. The Fullness of emptyness. The infinite Potential contained out of nothing. A new paradigm shift is languaging itself into our collective reality and i feel that the Gorrilaz and associates have crafted a fantastic gloss from which to update our instruments and communication apparatus, to help the people swallow up the whole mass-age and spit out "her" stories.

As you may or may not know, all primates -- and we certainly are primates -- have what are called 'male dominance hierarchies'. This means that the longest-fanged, meanest s.o.b. in a monkey tribe takes control of the group resources, the females, the weaker males, and this character runs the show, and this is pretty much how we do it today.
But my belief, based on 25 years of working with and taking psychedelic plants and substances, has led me to -- well, certainly to the brink of hubris -- to make an adjustment to evolutionary theory and suggest that these psychedelic substances are not private, peripheral, ancillary, cultish, esoteric, meaningless, self-indulgent, narcissistic, or obscure; they are in fact central to understanding how what we call 'human-ness' actually came to be in the first place.

My personal impressions of the "Gorillaz" kind of worldview if you like is that they are living in a post alphabetical world, an apocalyptic afterfuture where a virtual self (avatar) seems ever so slightly or at least equally real. This concept relates very nicely for me to poetics based on the Zen-Buddhist conceptions of nonbeing as being, emptiness as form, and transcendence of the duality between self and world.
The Chuang Tzu, an ancient philosophical treatise, states that: "Tao cannot be conveyed by either words or silence. In that state which is neither speech nor silence its trancendental nature may be apprehended." perhaps painting best typifies that state which is neither speech nor silence, but manages to convey a unique mood which can transport us into a special awareness. Yet, if we, as westerners, are to experience the tao in Chinese painting or in the I-Ching, we must recognize and transcend certain limitations of mind. - R. L. Wing, The Illustrated I-Ching
The classical spiritual Avatar or guardian ANGEL parallels the "Gorillaz" avatars in many ways. And the flurry of Avatars born to web2 everyday. Avatars become a vehicle to help bridge self and supra-self, the A-typical western dualistic paradox which has long been kept alive in small enclaves and underground cells in the Western lands.
Hip Hop culture recently manifested thousands of magical Avatars, powered up with symbol, sound and movements united together, charged. Generally many Eastern religions include the phenomena of the "Avatar" as a kind of virtual super self, a comic book hero; often graphically mutated with an animal or element within nature.
In literature this metamorphosing takes place in metaphor, poetry and allegory. The great Oriental mystics, and many Western esotericists and Shamans and bards have been using metaphor to combat the demons of reality since the beginnings of "Time/space", within "ZEN" Buddhist and some Taoist creation stories and poetic parables we often see metamorphosis between mankind and nature.
Oriental paintings for example, eclipse the human being with Mountain, wave, river, cloud, monkey. Gorillaz have brought this myth science arkestra back to a Western stage in 2007. Capturing this kind of holographic motion on the page with words might be a helpful metaphor to use when describing what Joyce has left us in Finnegans Wake: a flurry of spicetyme Angels.
See Finnegans Wake and The Cantos of Ezra Pound for working examples of exactly this kind of omnipoteia, multiple sensory, multi-cultural, multi linguistic and multi-symbolic communications. More simply called Epic poetry or referred to as "The Tale of the Tribe". Monkey: Journey to the West qualifies as an Oriental based "Tale of the Tribe" or cultural compendium, working on many different levels, philosophical, spiritual, magical, historical.
And so i am knitting Monkey into a kind of Maybelogical glossed Oriental "Tale of the Tribe" and hijacking their performance into my own interpretations of Orientalism and Modernism.

And so the real and unreal thinking goes around and around, but thankfully the Gorillaz, dubbed as the worlds first Virtual band due to the cartoon/comic book like appearance and the hologramic "projections" of the band during their perfoirmances. The band however is a mutating band of gypsies, a well pool of talent from around the world, many special guests both real and virtual make magical appearances in both the real and the virtual world. Jamies Hewlett and "CHU" recently glossed a full 217 Meter train which rolls from London to Manchester daily. The philosophical questions raised about what real reality really is and what a virtual reality really is! is a portal of discovery which thanks to the Gorrilaz and their mist (tech support, musicians, producers, painters, designers, financial backing etc.) has led back to well spring of valuable information, preserved with out the usual mass identity fragmentation and forced re-shaping to fit in with the Knu world order reinforced by False Iconic Corporate Capitalists.
The boundless Wisdom of the Orient goes straight to the root, the seed, back to nature as metaphor. The Fullness of emptyness. The infinite Potential contained out of nothing. A new paradigm shift is languaging itself into our collective reality and i feel that the Gorrilaz and associates have crafted a fantastic gloss from which to update our instruments and communication apparatus, to help the people swallow up the whole mass-age and spit out "her" stories.

Stourbridge 2.0 (A letter to the Stourbridge News)
I was very sad reading my local rag last week. So sad that i started to write a letter to the paper and the people of Stourbridge, a letter to reach out and communicate. Peace comes of Communication said Ezra Pound.

Dear Stourbridge and The Stourbridge News.
In these shattered times, i often turn to the Stourbridge News for information and knowledge about Stourbridge and its surrounding area, to get the swing of whats going on locally. It often makes me smile and sometimes sigh. Last week your printed pages made me literally cry.
I might have cry'd because i was feeling sensitive or maybe i cry'd because of the powerful combination of articles and letters published with such a compelling political aura? Politics or a kind of political commentary always appears in your paper, its literally full of it, but last week it was jam packed full with such powerful politics. I just welled up, "Jesus" i thought, i need to communicate more. So this is how i propose to help. With a new idea. Stourbridge 2.0
The Stourbridge News LTD. now has a web site that publishes selected stories and letters (And hopefully this letter), and for the first time in History has the wonderful added bonus of a feedingback function. (although very primitive as web feedback technology goes) None the less, its much like the printed letters section of the actual paper paper itself but on an "open" public computer network. This network is still under moderation by your editing board, so i assume your capable of keeping a scholarly, balanced and democratic environment. Equal to any News Services goal of objectivity, fairness and equality when representing information to the public.
I was upset and frustrated partly because of the tragically wasted opportunity for a real community service, a real democratic interactive political environment; an interactive democratic Stourbridge based forum to discuss the most important issues facing us today. Maybe featuring various models of politics (from the Greens, BNP, Liberal Dem's, Labor, Conservatives, Independents etc), Various economic models, various models of community activities in progress, all in various models of communication: (Multimedia - Video, Audio, Text), various models of Government, various models of anything you fancy? Anything the PEOPLE fancy or wish to discuss that they feel strongly enough about. To quote a popular phrase "We have the Technology". But do we have the collective will power?
A closed circuit attitude towards the electronic integration of "Stourbridge" into the World Wide Web of Globalization and Global Communication can only stifle our culture. If Dudley is introducing electronic voting systems for example, then where's the electronic public feedback forum? You can't have one without the other brother. Just 23 Megabytes of feedback space for each voter, at a conservative guess, would suffice. Imagine an electronic democratic forum for voters to have THEIR say about WHAT they are voting for, and to provide THEIR alternatives? You better imagine faster because the whole world is waiting, a whole "Other" world. Who knows, more people might come to visit Stourbridge who never heard of it, so helping the businesses which seem to be in need of more custom.
I ask of Stourbridge or the gentle readers of the Stourbridge News - why have they (The Council, Newspapers, Political Parties, Major Corporations) NOT joined together on the internet yet? with a PUBLIC FEEDBACK Forum for us, your subjects, your workers? and not just e-mail and private use of the Global internet communications available in 2007, why, not as yet have they created an interactive community forum, integrating both the local community, businesses, education centers and POLITICAL think tanks, and, the non-local "World Wide Web" all together? Why not a Public open feedback forum?
Not forgetting the Stourbridge News itself. In fact the Stourbridge News would have to be the hub, the nest if you like from which this inevitable communications revolution will remerge as if by magic to those people with insufficient technological awareness of Globalization, Internet 2.0 and the long lost and ancient bones of what a political democracy IS: An Open society with multiple models, open debate, free criticism, free speech and freedom of the press, right to assembly etc. Healthy fast FEEDBACK!
What i propose then, considering my own shock and terror after reading your articles last week that resulted in much emotional drama is a "Public forum" based around Stourbridge News .COM, but maybe opening up the editorial to different public groups like the local Churches and Learning Institutions for example, why not LINK us all up together or at least allow for those who would like to Link LINK, at least temporarily, at least.
I figure if enough people vote that this is a good idea and vote for it to be implemented, then its pretty easy to add such a "forum" section to your website, which incidentally already has NETWORK Links to all of the major Council, Media, Political Parties, Major Corporations active in and around Stourbridge. Who knows if we pray the .Gov might have some funding for you to set this all up? IMHO this "Forum" is exactly what they should provide THE PEOPLE with. When we have such political emergencies to deal with, and we have many political emergencies to deal with.
A slogan i like that outlines good internet etiquette is that if your can't achieve tolerance at least attempt a little courtesy. I often wish political councillors could understand this phrase, in the non-internet world.
